Vermont's Apprenticeship Program
Vermont's Registered Apprenticeship Program requires 8,000 on-the-job training and four years (144hours/year) of schooling. School runs from September to March, in the evenings at locations across the state. IBEW Local 300 has a hands on training center located at the Union Hall; all Local 300 Apprentices are required to complete 36 hours of practical training per year in addition to the 144 state-mandated classroom hours.

IBEW Local 300 represents about 40 inside wiremen and telecommunications apprentices across Vermont. Our primary mission is to develop the most skilled, productive, and efficient electricians and technicians in the United States of America. We are dedicated to training professionals who have the expertise, character and sense of teamwork to bring the utmost value to the clients they serve, the union they represent, and the contractors who employ them
Apprentices are paired with licensed electrical workers in the field to act as mentors and teachers.
After a 500-hour probationary period, IBEW Local 300 apprentices are eligible to receive benefits including health insurance, dental and vision insurance, short term disability insurance, pension and 401K contributions.
Non Registered Apprentices
Up to 2,000 working hours will apply toward the required apprentice OJT.
The Future of IBEW Local 300 Apprentices
There are many opportunities for advancement for a union apprentice at IBEW Local 300.
1. Once you have completed the 8,000 on-the-job hours and the 720 hours of classroom training, you are eligible to test for your Electrical License
2. The next step from a Journeyworker's License is Master Electrician - another exam after 2 years of holding a Journeyworker's license
With dedication and hard work, an apprentice can advance quickly to a master electrician. Other possibilities include becoming a Foreman, Site Supervisor, or Project Manager.

The Vermont JATC Electrical Apprenticeship Program accepts applications for employment year-round. We accept applications for the apprenticeship program from June 15th-August 1st each year.
